A couple of years ago, my mail was serviced by a M$ Exchange server. 
They had the same www access available and I had used it on occasion. 
It worked, but as I recall it was pretty painful.  Soon after I was
moved to a different mail server that supported imap so I quick using
the www solution.

I guess the point is, I can't help you much other than to say that I was
able to use it via Linux/Netscape.  Thing is, you had to use the browser
to access the stuff, you couldn't use Netscape Messenger.
