You can pay Mindspring the $6 or whatever it is for a minimal account
with an email box for your wife, and use Phoenix for your physical
connection. I have a Mindspring (actually Earthlink) account
that I use for all my email, but my physical service is
via TimeWarner RoadRunner. The POP server doesn't seem to care
where you get your connection, though I suppose in theory they
could filter out connections from non-Mindspring-clients.

Why pay for two separate services, you ask? I intend to keep my
Mindspring account forever, since their customer service, reliability,
and general competence is way better than the cable IP providers I've
used. But I'll take the fastest local connection I can get...
besides, I never pay Mindspring a penny in connection charges,
unless TWRR goes down for an extended period, so it's really
not much additional cost.
