[ale] shell accounts

A shell account is a unix account normally that allows a customer to
login to the box via telnet and access the box and all of the unix
commands from a simple command line prompt. They can write and compile
code with C,C++, Java, Perl, etc. They can run 24 hour 7 day a week
processes (ie-irc bots) and use multi-tasking software like screen to
have multiple sessions running. I personally could not live without a
shell account but I come from a heavy DOS environment and still pop DOS
windows in Win XX.

Shells usually run from 10-20 per month depending on the drive space you
get on the account. Each shell also includes ftp, telnet, newsgroup
(tin/rtin), and web (lynx) access.

There are plenty of linux shells available at GDN Networks, Inc.
(www.gdn.net) for $10/mo for 10megs of drive space. (HUGE PLUG)

Hope this helps,
