[ale] IP masq/ipchains question

I've been using my Linux box for exactly the same thing. Here are a few
things to check:
1) You must have your kernel compiled with the 'routing' option under
networking enabled.
2) Make sure that the second NIC shows up if you type:
ifconfig
If not you need to configure it. If your using RedHat, you can set up the
second card with the network icon in their 'control panel' app.
3) If your Linux box can't ping outside addresses you need to set up a
'default' route to the Internet. Use a command similar to:
route add default gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx eth1
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx has to be replaced with the gateway for your ISP. This also
assumes that eth1 is the device your using for your second NIC.
4) On all of your other machines you must set their gateway addresses to
the address of the NIC connected to your local network.
Hope this helps
