I just upgraded my XFree86 using the "friendly" RedHat Proprietary Method
(RPM j/k). Everything went smooth, and I made sure to reconfigure (edit
/etc/X11/XF86Config). I rebooted for kicks. The problem is when starting up
run-level 5, the system gets hung on "Starting XFS". I thought, well let's
not have it start XFS, so I booted into single user mode and took that step
out of the booting process (renamed S92xfs to K92xfs). No luck. I can
however boot into single user mode, then "telinit" to run-level three. After
logging in as USERNAME, I can "startx" and everything works fine, even XFS!
Below is the only thing I can find in the logs, I would like to resolve this
incase I do ever decide to power my PC off.
Log file:
Sep 9 15:55:50 rjaninda2 PAM_pwdb[540]: (su) session opened for user xfs by
(uid=0)
Sep 9 15:55:50 rjaninda2 su: _FontTrans
Sep 9 15:55:50 rjaninda2 su: SocketINETCreateListener: Unable to get
service for -1
Sep 9 15:55:50 rjaninda2 su: _FontTrans
Sep 9 15:55:50 rjaninda2 su: MakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to create
listener for tcp
Sep 9 15:57:50 rjaninda2 init: Switching to runlevel: 6
Sep 9 15:57:50 rjaninda2 PAM_pwdb[540]: (su) session closed for user xfs
Sep 9 15:57:50 rjaninda2 Font Server[542]: terminating
What the hell is this? XFS has a UID=0?!?!?! And listens on a port?!?!?!
Someone explain please.
You can see I waited for 2 minutes for this thing to boot before I "3-finger
saluted" it.
thanks,
