Malcom -

MS*- I had similar problems and settled on using ddup, MS- this little
utility goes out gets your dynamic ip MS- address (from MS- ifconfig, I
think) and sends it MS- to dyndns.org. Works fine for me, ...

Thanks for the information, but this still doesn't sound like the beast I
need.  My ISP (Avana.net) has told me to acquire the name of _their_ DNS
dynamically. My IP _is_ assigned dynamically, but that is no change, nor any
problem to me. My problem is knowing the IP of Avana's currently active
_nameserver_, so it can be placed in '/etc/resolv.conf' or some analog.
