[ale] DHCP Invocation for PPP

Hello -

Wanting to try DHCP, I created a couple of /etc/* directories, opened ppp0
to my ISP, and invoked thusly (as 'su'):

# dhcpcd -r ppp0

I received an error message to the general effect:
'ppp0 not ethernet'

Invocation without a specified link gets an error message that dhcpcd's
'env' variable naming the link is not defined.

Can I invoke 'dhcpcd' to retrieve my host's configuration over the ppp link
to the host?
