[ale] Error message: "modprobe: can't locate module ppp0:0"

Setup: RedHat 6.0 w/2.2.13 kernel and ppp-2.3.10 compiled into the kernel.
Whenever diald connects to the internet, I get 50 of these messages in the log
file: "modprobe: can't locate module ppp0:0" with the last part of ppp0:0 all
the way to ppp0:49 
Any idea why I'm getting this and how to get rid of it?
