Hmm, all that research??? My 30 second "net check" turned up:

http://howto.linuxberg.com/LDP/HOWTO/Sound-HOWTO.html
6.3 How can I record a sample?

answers you question about "is it possible?".

Also, I guess you didn't check Alta Vista, which has hundreds of pages
of relevant info: I punched in +linux +recording and was overwhelmed
with pages.

Also, I guess you didn't check Yahoo, if you punched in +linux +sound you
would have seen this page:

http://www.xdt.com/ar/linux-snd/

Chock full of linux sound recording information.

Sorry to be snippy, but apparantly you didn't look :)

Basically, you just patch your turntable into your soundcard, and record
the input to a wav files. Then, burn the wave files to your CDR. There
may be other ways, but this is the standard way.

You said you don't have windows "on this machine". I would suggest that
you use the machine that you do have Windows on, as most of the best sound
recording software is written for Windows, or some such non-linux OS.
I hope this will change, in the future. I used Cool Edit Pro, which, I am
sure, in unmatched in any Linux recording application.
