[ale] Kernel 2.3.9 compile errors

Has anyone been able to compile the 2.3.9 kernel? I've never had a bit of
trouble before, (I know, you've heard that one before!), but this one just
won't go. I'm mainly getting errors in the various ../fs/.. files such as
smbfs.o, umsdos.o, etc.
