[ale] Bad link as a user, not root

I have a wierd problem.  When I try to run XMCD as my default user, I get the 
error:

xmcd: error in loading shared libraries
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXm.so.1: undefined symbol: stat

However, if I run as ROOT it works just fine.

I've checked ALL my libraries, and none of them limit read access to anyone so 
I am really confused.  Anyone have any ideas?

I'm going to grab the sources and rebuild XMCD and see what happens.
