Ok, since there does seem to be an interest in helping out with the
Install Fest (Thanks!!), here, as promised, are some 'more details'.
So far, we're 99.9999% sure that we (se2600) will hold @LANta.CON
(atlanta dot con) the weekend of March 31st - April 2nd. (No, this is
Not an elaborate April fools' joke. <g>) Host site should be the
(moderately priced) Ramada Inn & Conference Center at 400 and I85- 418
Armour Dr, ATL, 30324. The Ramada has many panel & convention rooms to
choose from, some rather large, and we're reserving multiple rooms.
I only say 'should' as the hotel is quite happy to oblige, we're happy
with the hotel, but papers haven't been inked just yet.
Events & attractions include informational speaker panels, continual LAN
gaming, anime/movie room, Saturday night party, an internal net (w/an
excellent possiblity of internet access), a Separate (not on the main
network) 'Root warz' for those who wish to test their box's security*,
various 'geek' oriented games, and an Install Fest.
(* Strongly suggest cleaning any machines entered in Root Warz of any
personal or valued data beforehand, and to re-install the OS
afterwards.)
What we need is a few people who've organized and been involved in an
Install Fest who would like to run such an event within the convention.
We can offer the space, power, network, and a good bit of the
audience/participants in exchange for expertise, responsibility for the
event, & further 'advertising exposure' (as in this post).
If still interested, please reply asap. We're holding an organizational
meeting 5:00 PM on Sunday at the Ramada Inn for choosing appropriate
rooms to hold various events. Anyone interested in committee details is
certainly invited to attend, but I would like to have some general idea
before Sunday to give to the committee of what ALE believes you could
handle & what you will need.
