[ale] fonts

As a fairly new user of Linux, I have noticed that the fonts often look ill-shaped in Netscape.  I am
assuming this is a function of X-Windows.  Is there a way to correct this?  this is one of the things
I miss most about Internet Explorer- The clean, easy to read fonts.  I am using KDE and Slackware
7.0.
