[ale] laptop configurations

As an update.  My netscape problem was being caused by eth0 being active with
the network disconnected at boot time.  I was disconnected from the network
and noticed that ifconfig showed eth0 still up.  I did a ifconfig eth0 down
and netscape recovered quite nicely.  Thanks for the suggestions as well
