[ale] OT: -lsocket?

I'm trying to compile a console server on a Redhat-5.2 box and I'm
getting this:

[root at eb-console console]# make
gcc -o console -O -DSUN5 -I../conserver console.c -lsocket -lnsl
ld: cannot open -lsocket: No such file or directory
make: *** [console] Error 1
[root at eb-console console]#

I know I need some programming classes. Other thoughts?
