Been there. It was about as easy to comprehend as a book on Euclidian
Geometry, and about as simple as well... ;-).
I think I found the problem -
I was using the following context:
$ printf "Number of lines received: %20s $lr \n\n "
What I had to go to was this:
$ printf "Number of lines received: "
$ printf "%20s" "%lr"
$ printf "\n\n"
It makes it a little complicated, but it does work...
