[ale] LS won't work on anonymous FTP?

Turned out to be an "interesting" problem... I had copied a bunch of
home directories over from another box to the linux box, including
/home/ftp.  The other box had binaries in /home/ftp/bin/ that
wouldn't run on Linux!  I tarred up /home/ftp from another box and
plopped it down on top and I'm back to normal!
