[ale] red hat as print server

environment:

red hat 5.x box as print server
win9x clients connecting via samba
linux clients connecting via lp

worked great, except for one linux box...discovered he didn't have an
account on the red hat box that matched his own box.  added a user,
and it printed...does this mean that red hat requires a local user for
each remote user that might print?  fearsome...

hopefully, there's a FM that i haven't RT'd yet...anyone have
suggestions?  i'd hate to think that i can't give lpd access to a
whole machine without adding users for each remote user...
