[ale] printer brightness?

Ok,
  I'm doing some drawings for my wife.  The colors according to 
gimp/netscape look perfect.  When I printed them though, they were VERY
dark.

  I have a HP-694C printer and the new ghostscript, 5.50 I think.  Anyone
have any ideas how to "tune" the brightness?
