[ale] Missing fstab file

I can help you w/ the fstab problem, but for ppp, first edit
/etc/resolv.conf and (In slackware)  edit /usr/sbin/ppp-on and then type ppp-on and you will be
connected, Mindspring told me they used pap, but I think the guy was
incorrect
