Hi Dan,
I had the same problem with RedHat5. I think they had some problems
with the kernel network drivers but these have been fixed since then. In
my case I reinstalled with a new boot disk. In your case, if you don't
want to do this, you should be able to fix the problem by recompiling
the kernel with the new kernel source from the update directory. Hope
this helps.
