if you're talking about the netcom (or whatever it was) account that the "from"
and "reply-to" headers showed, the account doesn't exist; it was made up and
purposely placed in those fields.  If you're talking about the earthlink
account from which one of the letters was sent, that probably doesn't legally
exist either (hence the person responsible would be unknown).  Earthlink allows
people to create accounts automatically; therefore carding an account on
earthlink is as simple (maybe more simple) than carding an account on AOL.  I'm
not sure if psi.net allows automatically generated accounts or not; that one is
probably his real ISP.  Sending an email to psi.net with the IP address and
exact time might help in that case, if they still have the logs (and if it's a
UNIX system; i don't think they can trace previous connects on NT (i'm not sure
though, so if someone could get back to me on that...)).  They might not care.

What i'd recommend to the ALE list owner is that he set up a mail filter to
discard or refuse mails from people outside the mailing list.
