[ale] X problem

I used to have RedHat 4.0 linux on my 486 and everything was fine.
Ever since I installed RedHat 4.1 linux, I started to see that some
X applications running remotely were not able to display their windows
on my PC over a ppp connection on a regular phone line.  Applications
like xev and xeyes work perfectly all the time, but not xterm, xman, and etc.,
whose windows never show up and X connections get cut off by the
X server after a while.

Any pointers?
