[ale] Dumping core

Hi David,

   Normally core dumps occur because of errors in the memory management code
of your application, so in addition to Eric's recommendations I suggest you 
download Checker, which is a purify-like tool that detects most memory
errors. You can find it in gatech, the author just released a new
version a few weeks ago.

Also take a look at ddd, a nice debugger which works with gdb.
