similar CD-ROM problems

I too am having problems getting Linux to recognize my CDROM drive. I've
got a P75 with 8M, a Diamond Stealth 64 graphics card (S3), a
soundblaster 16 sound card, and a Hitachi CDROM drive.
I too have been able to create the root and boot disks and boot
successfully from them, but when Linux attempts to read from the CDROM
drive it gives an error that it can't read from the drive (I can't
remember the error - I haven't messed with this installation for a while,
sorry:) The CDROM distribution I have is Slackware 2.3, and I've tried
the images which seem to make the most sense for my machine
configuration, but this is what I get regardless of what I try. Does
anybody know where there are other images - particularly ones that
support Hitachi CDROM drives? It'd be REALLY nice to be able to complete
this installation directly from the CDROM drive rather than have to copy
the entire distribution to the dos partition first...
Thanks, in advance, for any hints/suggestions.
