[ale] fd0 perm problems

I had posted a problem with my floppy device and write protected floppies.
I guess I should have been more specific.  I'm not mounting the floppy, I'm
tar'ing directly to it, as in:

tar -czvf /dev/hd0h1440 /home/foo

When I do this to a write protected disk, I get an error I expect.  I then
pull the floppy out, correct the problem and I still get the write error.
I can even put in a different floppy and I get the same error.  Not that
this makes any difference between writing to a mounted floppy and just writing
to the floppy...  Now, anybody seen this?  Again, the only resolution is to
reboot.  Pretty drastic huh?
