Position Description

The Sr. Linux  Engineer's role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems. The Sr. Linux Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS FOR REDHAT LINUX ENGINEER
* Must have strong background with Linux (RHEL 5.x, 6.x) and core products/components (patching, boot from SAN, multipathing, etc).
* Must have experience with x86/midrange hardware including x86 physical servers, x86 Blades, p-Series, HMCs, etc.
* Must have extensive knowledge and experience with physical and virtualized systems (Linux VMs) required, (LPARs) a plus.
* Technical knowledge of and experience with SAN/NAS infrastructure.
* Basic knowledge of LAN/WAN network infrastructure, protocols and tools, including cabling, switches, routers a plus.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE FOR LINUX REDHAT ENGINEER
* Engineering experience with Linux systems required. AIX experience a plus. Includes systems engineering, troubleshooting, security hardening, storage configurations, etc.
* Must have strong knowledge and experience of performance monitoring and system tuning.
* System configuration and deployment experience leveraging technologies such as Jumpstart and Kickstart, Puppet.
* Experience with shell scripting required (i.e. ksh, bash).  Perl and Python a plus. Experience with supporting VMWare and Apache Tomcat highly desired.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES FOR LINUX REDHAT ENGINEER
* Deploy and configure new systems
* Create, optimize and automate guest server build processes and deployment tools for Operations staff
* Daily run and maintain of systems including monitoring for system health, performance, and security
* Linux system performance monitoring and capacity planning
* Build and deploy auxiliary IBM systems including KVMs, Bladecenter chassis, HMCs,
* Rotating on-call support of systems and applications
* Systems and applications troubleshooting
