One of our clients in Alpharetta is looking for a Linux Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to join their team. Our client is moving their products to Linux environment and need help with the transition. The candidate needs to have recent experience in an Oracle environment. They are in immediate need and would like to get someone in ASAP for an interview. The position will be contract to hire.

The team the Engineer will join is great. Very fun, collaborative, and hardworking. In the past 5 years they have only had one person leave and that was due to a long commute. Great group. Job Summary:

*         The Linux System Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, day-to-day technical support, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to leading industry best practices and organizational procedures and policies. This position entails support for the Operating System configuration and associated file systems, log files, processes, problem determination, problem resolution, software, administration tools, utilities, security and hardware. The scope of this position includes business critical support of Linux servers and interaction of these systems in the production environment.

*         This position requires 24/7 on-call support, the ability to monitor service stability and performance tuning, exemplary configuration and management of Linux systems and the ability to improve, implement, deploy, and maintain high performing and stable Linux servers that support multiple large Oracle databases.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

*         Performs administration of Linux (and some Windows) based servers

*         Provide technical support and documentation for systems - physical and virtual

*         Provide support for x86 Blade and rack mount servers - UCS and IBM servers

*         Deploy and maintain servers according to organization standard procedures and policies

*         Ensure systems meet established regulatory and external compliance guidelines - SAS70, SOX, ISO, etc...

*         Maintain sever environment health and availability

*         Provide operating system level support to application developers and Production Support teams

*         Work closely with and provide support to Oracle DBA team and other application support teams as needed

*         Manage Red Hat and CentOS Linux servers and all components/services including Authentication, DNS, File Systems, DHCP, Print Services, FTP, TCP/IP and others

*         Responsible for testing and then deploying security patches to the server environment

*         Provide enhanced performance tuning, troubleshooting and analysis

*         Monitor system logs, activity and performance on all servers daily

*         Utilize ticketing system to address and resolve support requests

*         Submit weekly status report to IT management detailing the overall health and performance metrics of environment, root cause problem analysis, suggested application fixes, problem metric reporting, current project updates, and possible roadblocks to completing projects as scheduled

*         Identify and implement continuous improvement efforts.

*         Research new technologies and present recommendations/justifications on hardware and software purchases

*         Monitor system performance, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot and analyze cause of performance problems then recommend solution to resolve problem


*         Education:

*         BS Degree in a technical curriculum or equivalent work experience.
