Hey, we have a position open where we need someone with some linux experience and a bit of scripting.

Don't worry about what the posting says, this is what we are looking for.

Someone that knows the linux file system. How to update repos for CentOS/Fedora/RedHat.

How to use the command line. Processes, network ports open, and the like.

Basic scripting. It can be bash, perl, ruby, python. If you know any sort of coding/scripting it will do. The key factor is that you have an core understanding of Linux.

About the job and environment.

Sage is a laid back company with a very lax dress code. The hours are flexible, and it is a good group of people to work with.

Sage is seeking a talented engineer to join a web operations team to help automate, monitor and improve operations of a SaaS product.   We are looking for someone who understands both the development and operations disciplines as this position bridges the gap between development and traditional operations with significant challenges in both areas for the right candidate.  You will be working with cutting edge technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Amazon Web Services, security and monitoring tools, and more!


Responsibilities:

  *   Deploying, monitoring and administering a high-profile SaaS solution.
  *   Develop and improve all aspects of operational automation using Chef, Ruby, and other tools as may be required.
  *   Level 2 support of application and infrastructure issues as necessary for 24/7 operations.  This means being occasionally on call and work outside normal business hours.
  *   Interface with internal web-development and Information Systems teams to meet development requirements as well as IS policies and controls.
  *   Work with development, QA and QA automation teams to support and troubleshoot Continuous Integration servers and work towards moving us to a Continuous Deployment environment.
  *   Use security tools to scan server instances and applications for security issues as well as remediating issues found.
  *   Working with a small team of dedicated professionals.


Qualifications:

Required skills:

  *   Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  *   Some programming experience is required.
  *   A good understanding of Web/Network technologies.
  *   Linux system administration or strong Unix skills such as shell scripting, networking, performance monitoring, package management.
  *   SQL proficiency.
  *   Exposure to virtualization technologies or cloud computing.

Desired skills:

  *   Ruby, Ruby on Rails experience.
  *   Git and GitHub.
  *   Chef or other systems integration framework.
  *   Amazon Web Services
  *   RightScale cloud management.
  *   MySQL – Especially with regards to management and performance tuning.
