Job Description :
Is responsible for multi-platform operating systems, utilities, and 
related software to meet organizational needs. Is responsible for the 
availability, integrity, and reliability of assigned systems. Makes 
recommendations on system upgrades and new technologies.

MINIMUM/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Seven years of operating systems analysis/administration experience OR a 
bachelor's degree and five years of operating systems 
analysis/administration experience.


Experience with:
Linux (CentOS 5.X/6.X, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
bash shell scripting, perl scripting
open source application installation and maintenance,
NAS storage environments (some SAN familiarity a plus)
VMware ESX 4.1, VMware Workstaion 7/8
high performance and distributed computing environments,

Additional Job Details
The Emory University Center for Comprehensive Informatics
(http://cci.emory.edu) seeks applications for the system administrator
position. The Center, in collaboration with Emory’s Biomedical Informatics
Department, pursues research and development in the advancement of 
informatics
tools and infrastructure. A sample of initiatives include the 
development and
deployment of software and methods for coordinated management and 
analysis of
biomedical datasets, middleware systems for integration of disparate 
datasets,
imaging informatics, clinical informatics, and high performance computing
systems. Our projects are multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional 
involving
collaborations with scientists and software researchers and developers.

The successful applicant will plan and carry out tasks for the
administration of CCI systems, which include a SAN file system, networking
environment, desktops and laptops running Linux and OS X, and Linux-based
computation clusters. Responsibilities for this position include:

Overall responsibility for the availability, integrity, security, and
reliability of the SAN and computation cluster systems;

The system administration of the operating system, Virtual Machines,
compilers, and other system-level tools as well as the application of
necessary security and stability patches;

Coordinate with other CCI staff and researchers to assist them in
installing applications and middleware software on the CCI systems;

Tune, monitor, and customize operating system level components to assure
high level of availability and performance;

Work with CCI researchers in planning system architectures in support of
individual projects as well as the overall CCI research and production
infrastructure;

Coordinate with University teams to ensure appropriate, reliable, and
secure interfaces with the network, security, identity management, and
other key infrastructure components;

Interact with his counterparts at other organizations to assist in system
access, networking, and administration related issues in
multi-institutional collaborative projects.

The CCI system administrator will report directly to the CCI director.
