The Intersect Group, a leading IT consulting services organization, has an
immediately available contract openings and a contract-to-permanent opening
in the Smyrna/Vinings area for Unix Systems Administrator.



The client site will be moving to the Perimeter area of Dunwoody in about 6
months.



Perform the installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of
computer systems with UNIX and/or Linux operating systems.  Provide
technical support, and troubleshoot problems on local and remote UNIX and
Linux servers.

Work under general supervision with latitude for independent judgment. May
consult with senior peers, UNIX team members and corporate engineers on
certain projects. Moderate skills, with high level of proficiency. Typically
requires five to eight years of experience.

**

*Primary Responsibilities:*

         Responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining UNIX/Linux
servers and their associated storage.    These systems are located around
the world in multiple data centers, so after hours phone support will be
required.

         Performs software installations and upgrades to UNIX operating
systems in accordance with established policies, procedures and service
level agreements.

         Monitors and tunes servers to achieve appropriate levels of
performance and reliability.

         Ensures the safety and security of corporate data through adherence
to corporate backup standards and disaster recovery procedures.

         The ability to assist in a “hands on” manner in two data centers in
the Atlanta metro area (Headquarters & Lithia Springs) is deemed essential,
so residency in the Atlanta area is required.  Travel to other offices may
occasionally be required, but is rare -- on average less than twice per
year.

         Will be required to support multiple architectures (IBM P-Series,
HP PA-RISC, HP Itanium, SUN UltraSPARC, x86-64) throughout their entire
lifecycle: rack, install, support, upgrade, support, repurpose, support,
decommission, disposal).

         Supporting multiple versions of each Operating System (AIX, HP-UX,
Solaris, RedHat).

         Will be expected to assist in implementing and architecting process
automation.

         Research, evaluate and recommend new hardware and software for
systems as required.

         Conducts routine audits to ensure servers are compliant with
established standards and configuration guidelines.

         Documentation of all work according to established standards.

**

*General Qualifications:*

         An education in computer science or a related field.

         Significant programming background in any applicable language.

         Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

**

*Education and/or Experience:*

        Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) from four-year college or
university. Five to eight years of system administration experience,
preferably in a software development environment.


*Other Skills and Abilities:*

*Required Skills*

        Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing
purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making
presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper
management.

        Independent problem-solving, self-direction.

        Comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration;
for example, system installation and configuration, fundamentals of
security, installing third party software.

        Has a solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system;
understands paging and swapping, inter-process communication, file system
concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions).

        Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing
environment concepts; can configure NFS and NIS; can use nslookup or dig to
check information in the DNS; understands basic routing concepts.

        Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Perl,
shell, others as needed).

        Ability to build open source software and do minimal debugging and
modification of C programs.

**

*Nice to have Skills*

        Experience with centralized storage (SAN and NAS).

        Experience with networking (Cisco IOS, firewalls).

        Familiarity with implementing LDAP solutions.

        Practice building open source software solutions.

        Experience with ClearCase

**
