System Administrator Position - Background and Requirements

Performance Matters provides a comprehensive assessment and data
management platform that supports the information needs of today’s
teachers, school system leaders, and parents.  Using Performance
Matters, all stakeholders in the educational process have ready access
to the information and resources they need to sustain student learning
and effective instruction.

Performance Matters is seeking a System Administrator to be an
integral part of its Research and Development organization based in
historic Roswell, Georgia.  Our R&D group continues to grow along with
Performance Matters’ success, and we're laying the foundation for new
and exciting technologies to be used in the Primary Education field.

The System Administrator will be responsible for maintaining the
current network environment and be part of the design and
implementation processes as the environment expands.

This is a very “hands-on” position that will require both deep
practical and technical knowledge, along with being able to think
strategically about long-term plans.

We’re looking for someone who has a solid foundation in information
systems and / or computer science, with strong competencies in network
administration, that would be comfortable working in a Linux / Unix
shop.

This position will work under the supervision of several senior-level
engineers and developers who will provide on-going guidance and
mentoring.

Our work environment is casual and informal, yet demanding and very productive.

Primary technical experience and competencies should include:

·         Strong Linux / Unix Administration (with a focus on CentOS);
Comprehensive and active knowledge of current Windows, Mac, and Linux
client systems

·         Amazon AMI, server virtualization and optimization, and
cloud technologies

·         Extensive network switch management and firewall experience

·         Conversant in administrative scripting using BASH, Python,
and PERL.  PowerShell knowledge a plus.

Examples of some responsibilities include:

·         Analyzing system logs and identifying potential issues with
computer systems

·         Introducing and integrating new technologies into existing
data center environments

·         Performing routine audits of systems and software

·         Performing backups

·         Applying operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes

·         Installing and configuring new hardware and software

·         User Account Management

·         Answering technical queries

·         Responsibility for system and network security

·         Responsibility for documenting the configuration of the system

·         Troubleshooting any reported problems

·         System performance tuning

Ensuring that the network infrastructure is up and running
