Our client is a prime contractor with DOD, DO, DOC, and NOAA. We have an immediate opening for a Senior Unix/Linux Administrator with Oracle knowledge on a contract with a NOAA Facility in Silver Spring, MD.  



 



We are seeking a self-starter who can work well unsupervised and within a team who can successfully perform Unix and Linux responsibilities and related troubleshooting, documentation and security technical duties.  
This position is responsible for installation, configuration, maintenance and monitoring all Unix and Linux operating systems and related networking, as well as knowledge of Oracle.  



 


While local is ideal, our consultants live anywhere on the East Coast and are home on the weekends. 


 



The position requirements are as follows:


 


-Candidate must provide systems administration and maintenance support for various versions of Linux servers (RedHat, Debian, Suse) and Sun Solaris 9.x servers as well as the applications and services that run on the servers.


 


-BA or BS degree and three years of experience in UNIX/Linux System Administration, including current and developing technology and marketplace offerings. 


 


-Responsible for Monitoring, Backup & Restoration, and UNIX/Linux system administration for at least 18 servers. 


 


-Must maintain the existing applications and services on the systems by providing regular patch updates that ensure system stability and security. 


 


-Network & Device Performance Monitoring and notifying the team. 


 


-Develop, maintain and update event documentation and SOPs, as well as weekly status reports.


 


-Evaluate projects, costs and methods as requested to discuss and suggest approaches to NOAA management and provide other project support as requested.
