Looking to break out of a typical sysadmin job? Perhaps wish to go back to school part-time?

I'm looking for someone to fill my soon-to-be-available position at Georgia Tech. The position is for a 'Research Technologist' (yes, it's almost worth applying just for the cool title) and is a joint position between an interdisciplinary research center (http://www.gvu.gatech.edu/) and the technology support organization for the College of Computing. This job is a lot of fun however my wife has accepted a faculty position out-of-state.

This position is classified as "research faculty", a big benefit of which includes tuition assistance from the university as well as GTRC, the research corporation associated with the university. You can generally take 1-2 classes/semester fully paid. You also get more vacation time than most corporate positions.

So, what does this job entail?

You help make research happen. This is a varied position where you might be supporting Linux servers one day, A/V systems the next, and specialized equipment like a 3D printer or laser cutter the next. In the past, there has generally been a part-time student or two managed under this position. There is a good bit of face-time with faculty, staff, and students of the research center. The official job description and application instructions can be found here: https://ea.ohr.gatech.edu/careers/researchJob.asp?ID=8949

I would be happy to discuss details of the position further with any interested candidates. Pay is dependent on experience and that type of question should go to the HR contact listed in the posting as I have no idea. :-)

Best,

Brian Poole
