There's nothing worse than: "Yeah, this thing I wrote won't work on your old obsolete server" (Which is an up-to-date enterprise Linux distro). Did it work on the dev server? "No, everything there was out of date to, so I developed it on the latest version of Ubuntu".<br>

These days companies and interviewers often want to see your<br>
"portfolio", specifically on GitHub. So, start a project or two and<br>
"Git" some of your code out on GitHub, if you want to be a coder.<br>

Also keep in mind that larger organizations are typically very<br>
specialized, i.e. coders are not allowed to do Linux admin and may never<br>
have root access anywhere. They just code. You're more likely to wear<br>
many hats and use the full range of your experience in a smaller or<br>
newer organization.<br>
