Hmm. You could do this in freeipa. It has a phone number field by default. Plus a web gui that's easy. Create users but don't allow them access to a machine.

On Dec 22, 2016 7:17 PM, "Alex Carver" <agcarver+ale@acarver.net> wrote:

Need some recommendations for a very low resource LDAP server that is
easy to configure/administer. I was trying OpenLDAP but the lack of how
to properly write up any LDIF files to configure and populate it just
hurts my head.

My only purpose is to provide directory services for some phones. I
wanted to add non-system users (just user entries) to store phone name
and number so the phones could search the directory. I also wanted to
be able to easily configure things like basic authentication (e.g.
read/query only users). The server is inside a network so it's safe
from prying outsiders but still wouldn't be bad to know how to properly
set it up.

Alternatively if you have knowledge of some really good OpenLDAP
documentation for administration (the OpenLDAP page sucks) then I'd be
glad to have that. As an example, the page documents how to write a
complete configuration from scratch as if it didn't exist but it doesn't
explain or provide examples of how to make small changes (like updating
ACLs) without changing other settings.
