I believe Windows beat oS/2 because the hardware requirements for Windows were much lighter than those required for os/2. <br>
Don't forget that Windows was not popular until version 3.0 and os/2 was not useful until version 2.1.<br>

a project to do GUI to compete with Apple (who also didn’t invent GUI – Xerox did). IBM and Microsoft had a parting of the ways with lawsuits and recriminations but the end results were IBM did OS/2 and MS did Windows. Since Windows like DOS ran on multiple
