+1 for the SB6121. I've owned mine for four years, and it paid for
itself within the first year.
Thinking about Bombblast's higher speed tiers, I've hit the cap,
twice, by accident (runaway processes), with their mid-rate plans,
Blast! and whatever used to be slower than that, in the year or so
they've been "enforcing" it. i.e. I'm thinking that higher speed
means I can hit their cap all that much quicker.
You can plug your service speed in, and it'll show you the minimal
equipment needed.
I'd get the Motorola/Arris SB6141, they're reasonably priced ($90) and
will support all but the highest speed tiers (ie >=250Mbps). The 6121
($70 new) is cheaper but maxes out at 100Mbps.
One caveat, if you're a business class customer and want static IPs, you
*must* rent a modem from Comcast. (Go ahead, ask me how I learned this.
sigh..)

Another recommendation for the Motorola/Aris 61XX.
I was able to set up mine without any help from comcast.
Plug and play. When you first connect it gives you a setup page
from the head office, you put in your info, boom, internets.
Bought mine from Target I believe.
