I've also sucessfully recorded mp3 audio off my record player and used sox to cut it into songs based on the inter-cut silences. Sometimes that approach requires editing in audacity though.

-- CHS

On Wed, Aug 5, 2015 at 3:38 AM, Steve Litt <slitt@troubleshooters.com> wrote:

On Tue, 4 Aug 2015 16:57:27 -0400 (EDT)
That's illegal, and can get you in trouble. From what I understand,
time shifting has been found legal, there's some question about format
shifting, but a lot of people do it.

But when one copy is retained by you, and another by someone else,
that's illegal copying. If I were you I'd either:

1) Keep every CD you ripped as evidence of ownership in case the RIAA
police knock on your door, or

2) Don't rip the CDs, give them to Goodwill without retaining a copy,
and just listen to your streaming services.

I'd highly advise you do one of the preceding two alternatives.
