The drive won't POST itself and find the initial guide track on the<br>
platter. It just clicks over and over again performing the initial head<br>
seek and eventually gives up.<br>

I'll try it again after Christmas (running on the backup server now) to<br>
see if I can get it to boot just once more. I'll have the whole old<br>
machine available to fiddle with it while it gets replaced with the Rpi<br>
and external drive.<br>
