I have a vague memory of some gear I poked at that had to have the bios console redirect set to a non-working IO address even if it was disabled in order to not squash the physical serial port. Serial port sharing didn't work. Very fuzzy memory on this.<br>
<br></div>If you have the gear, certainly try looking at the wire level voltages and see if they go dark when the OS starts up. That would be a sure sign of a conflict. I don't recall if there's a flag for grub serial to force a share.<br>

I have the BIOS redirect turned off. I've not tested it yet.<br>

IMO the grub setting and kernel setting should have no bearing on what is going on. One thing I could try is a 3-wire cable. TX, RX, and GND to see if any of the other pins being active could be doing something.<br>

With the null-modem all that would be high on the MB's serial would be: RTS, DCD, DSR, Maybe RI.<span class="HOEnZb"><font color="#888888"><br>
