<p dir="ltr">Copy data and /etc to backup, do a fresh install to get partitioning right then restore data to correct location and etc to alternate location. Copy over configuration files as needed.<br>
Of all the systems I've migrated, ssh keys and passwd/shadow/group/gshadow and exports, iptables, httpd.conf and a few others (samba) are all that need moving. Just do a diff between new etc and old etc and see what needs moving. For most development machines, nothing beyond current work data matters.</p>

Friend of mine ( sort of web developer ) has ubuntu vmware install on<br>
windows host. Now he is decided to move the same install to partition<br>
on the same windows harddrive. I suggest to free space on the disk and<br>
create new partition + swap then to attach the new partition under<br>
vmware ubuntu machine -> run some live distro and copy ubuntu install<br>
to the new physical partition. Then should be grub install game.<br>

Do I missing something and giving him some bad ideas :)<br>
