I know someone who is an offshore rated captain, who does ferry work, and he has indicated that incompatibilities of onboard control systems is not uncommon. <BR>

The FAA is very strict about electronics in aircraft; you can't just shove in a CD player/radio; it has to be TSO approved. <BR>
<BR>
However, maritime regulation is not so, and control systems on the bridge sometimes lose contact with the engine room.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; There have been some spectacular docking accidents as a result, where the captain called for &quot;Idle&quot;, and the engine went &quot;Full Ahead&quot;. <BR>
