As is, I'm sitting in a house with not a lot of heat, trying to move my career into being a programmer. PHP is fun, and I could use some fun. Shell, Python, and a smidgen of SQL and C are also in my skillset, but PHP is fun.<br>

By taking myself forward with what is fun I am more likely to succeed. Perfection is oft the enemy of success.<br>

FYI, I found out that the book I mentioned, which claims to be<br>
the most used in the world on the topic, is available online. I<br>
looked at the printed copy at a book store, which is 700 pgs.<br>
That is the "abridged" OS-neutral version. I guess the online<br>
versions are OS-specific and longer.<br>

One thing that's bugging me, in all the resources mentioned, is<br>
the apparent lack of linkage to the I/O of the pc, mainly the<br>
graphical screen, the mouse, the hard drive, and the network<br>
card. Some console I/O commands are mentioned, and appear to be<br>
different in different references.<br>
