Back in Johannesburg we did this with my LUG and it worked out very well as a response to exactly the kind of thing we're experiencing here. I can see separate ALE-Tech and ALE-Chat lists being a good thing.</div>

I get doubly pissed when it's about Windows apps and how Windows "just works" and how hard and incapable Linux is. I regularly have to ignore what comes across as blatant trolling on this list and I do not see why I should have to unsubscribe, block or otherwise modify my behavior to accommodate this kind of anti-social drivel. If one wants one's warm-fuzzies about Windows affirmed, go join a Windows list, for crying out loud. </div>

I made suggestions regarding possibilities of splitting into "OT" and "On topic" lists, gave some examples of other lists around the country that were doing it successfully, and was vilified STRONGLY on this very list for even offering the notion.<br>

So, if you're going to hang out here, you're going to get everything from Aardvarks to Zebras, and you really can't complain about any of it. The only thing to do, then, is to hang out, be civil, ignore what doesn't apply or is off topic, and comment where you are interested or can be helpful.<br>
<br>
Attacking each other solves nothing and scares away newbies from asking questions, afraid they'll get the same treatment.<br>
