<p>Not to start any brand wars, but I have had nothing but problems at work with the newer Dell laptops. The Sony Vaio seems like a better alternative.<br>

As for soldering, the last time I used it was probably 25 years ago on<br>
my tethered remote control cars. I am sure my vision and the stability<br>
of my hands are no longer the same :-)<br>

Dustin, thanks for the offer on the parts but the neighbor would<br>
rather buy a newer laptop than build a Frankenstein off of her current<br>
