I understand. I don't use any ipod devices, but, couldn't you also
connect the device via cable to the pc? Also, I think another option
would be to carry your own small travel router with wpa2 encryption
enabled and a long beefy password. Then, anyone in your hotel room
could log into your router and everyone could see each other whether
the router is connected to the internet or not. You'd probably have to
turn off the "wireless isolation" feature. I'm not sure whether
broadcast traffic would work or not between wireless devices.<br>

Hampton Inn's offer free wifi. But the room rates can be high
depending on place and time of year. $ 85 - $ 125 / night. Rooms are
generally nice, and may have a work area, fridge, and microwave. The
wifi is usually over crowded and slow, maybe 500 Kbps - 1 Mbps.
Sometimes it's better. A few time, even worse. I wouldn't want to
use any hotel wifi without a vpn. I use <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://hotspotvpn.com" target="_blank">hotspotvpn.com</a> for
that at the moment, but may switch.<br>

My prepaid Verizon MyFi 4G hotspot works great, and I can get speeds to
about 12 Mbps in a 4G area or about 1 Mbps in a 3G area. Every 3 GB of
data costs me $ 60, so I have to be REALLY stingy about data usage to
stay under that for a whole month. Basically, no auto updates on
weather, apps, os. No podcasts or video. Just minimal email and web
surfing. I only forward certain emails to my tablet and I turn off
auto email checking. If I want more, I find a coffee shop or something
and connect to their wifi. Then I download my podcasts. In regards to
data caps, 4G service is BAD. You can blow over your limit REALLY
fast. I think you can attach 5 devices to the MyFi. I only pay to put
data on the MyFi whenever I travel or every 90 days to keep the account
active. When I'm just keeping it active, I only pay for a week, rather
than a month.<br>
