I don't moderate! What I have is a good set of filters so I get notices of messages that can't post due to anything but non-member post. Those go straight to trash and are dumped by mailman after 24 hours.
I like what's left of my sanity :-)

Hi Jim,

I'll bottom post this since you did the same. 8-)

Also trimming off the extra ALE sig.

I had to read this twice to read between the lines. Sounds like you have the list in full moderate mode and you have to delete 300 - 500 messages per day manually. Really?!! If that's true, thanks for taking out the trash!

I used to run an energy related mailing list under similar conditions. The moderation got to be too huge.

However, I thought only ALE members could post.

Perhaps you could bounce some members from the list who post nothing but spam ... as opposed to ideas with excessive diversity. 8-)

Some people moderate the first 5 - 10 messages from a new member, then set them free. But, everybody's different.

Sincerely,

Ron
(PS - If you email me and don't get a quick response, you might want to
call on the phone. I get about 300 emails per day from alternate energy
mailing lists and such. I don't always see new email messages very quickly.)
