As bicycle commuter I have found and GDOT confirmed there are
several metro Atlanta jurisdictions who do not know the traffic laws
for bicycles (you are a vehicle with full privileges to your lane
and you lane position is dictated by road and traffic conditions and
riding on the sidewalk is technically illegal). Depending on where
you live you will periodically be given a ticket by one of the local
morons in blue and have to waste a day in court clearly your name.
It is funny to watch the prosecutor's reaction when you plead Not
Guilty and can produce the relevant parts of the statute proving the
ticket is bogus.
Btw when I was in ATL a couple weeks ago, I missed Indiana
drivers. In Indy, during rush hour, most times, the traffic
report is nil, if there is an issue, people pull over, help
out, and others just keep going. I have only once seen a
bottleneck at an accident. Most people seem to know how to
drive. I was in ATL for about 3 hours, then thought, wow, I
miss Indy.
Hey, I live in Indiana. Btw I have lived everywhere.
Usually when that happens, I get out of the car, and
direct traffic. Also I volunteer for the American
Red Cross's DAT. (Disaster Action Team). Take a look
if you get a chance.

I'll second that. I grew up and
learned how to drive in Texas, and good
manners was also part of the instruction.
Then again, I've had people guess I was
from Texas just because Texans still know
the words sir and ma'am.

But I could do ok without
.50cals and mk19s.... I just wish all cars
had very bright red strobe light that
started flashing when going over 45mph,
and it detects another car within two car
lenghts. Sortof a shock collar for
tailgaiters.

Just the other day on 75 I was
dri ving along at about the speed limit at
night with light rain, no one in the rear
view. Then looked away for a second, then
glanced back and there was a car that had
cut over from my right, but was so close I
couldn't see its headlights... probably
half a car length at full speed on the
highway. No one has fast enough reaction
time to deal with that type of stupid...
people wanting to do nascar drafting and
cut you off for using turn signals. I
actually saw a 5 car pileup happen in the
lane right next to me on the connector one
morning because of this. Some one cut in
too close to one guy, couldnt react when
that guy slowed down because he was
tailgaiting too, and bumpercars ensued.

In Texas, even through the 80's it
was that way. You "drive friendly"
in a place where other drivers are
probably well armed and have a beer

I was just in Dallas for a week,
while it seems the open container
law has changed, they still drive
armed (I love Texas!) and mostly
still.. "drive friendly".
