If it's the issue I think it is, its a known defect in the 4.0.x systems. If you 'forget' the wifi hot-spot from your list and start from scratch, sometimes it will connect.

Some places also need you to sign in through a browser each time to get an IP - just try accessing some random website and see if the agreement and login page comes up.
Hi guys,
I'm having a problem that I hope you can help me with. My android tablet routinely works flawlessly on wifi at certain places and, at other places, it won't even connect. It works fine at home, and at Krystal, and at McDonalds (attwifi), and Barnes and Noble (attwifi), and generally works at Atlanta Bread Company. However, when I go to Which Wich, Los Rios, and Popeyes; it fails to connect. In the past, I have used it at these last two and now they no longer work.
Let's say I'm in Which Wich. I turn on wifi and see a good strong signal. The system starts trying to connect. It says, obtaining ip address. It does this for quite a while. If I'm watching the wifi screen, the signal strength seems to drop for the access point. After a while, the system gives up and says, avoided poor internet connection. Then, the signal looks strong again. I thought something had happened to the restaurant's wifi the first time. But, now that it's happening at three different places, I'm starting to suspect the tablet.
I have Android 4.0.3.
My kernel is listed as 2.6.39.4+.
I have whatever standard networking stack comes with the system and am not rooted. If anyone can shed any light on this, I'd really appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Ron
